First basemen take home MVP honors in AL and NL

Two first basemen won Most Valuable Player honors on Thursday night. Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu beat out Cleveland Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez to win American League MVP. Abreu is the fourth White Sox player to win MVP honors, joining Nellie Fox (1959), Dick Allen (1972) and Frank Thomas (1993 and 1994). Abreu is the third Cuban-born player to be named MVP, joining Jose Canseco (1988) and Zoilo Versalles (1965). The last first baseman to win NL honors was Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds in 2010.
