For the fourth straight year, the Sabercats’ 18-and-under team captured the Michigan Blue Chip Summer Slam College Showcase title in Byron Center. “Pretty cool with a ton of West Michigan (players), 80 percent Muskegon-based kids,” Sabercats president and coach Red Pastor said. Kalamazoo’s Central City Tap House is closed until further notice amid staffing shortage

KALAMAZOO, MI — In an effort to consolidate staffing resources across multiple area restaurants, Millennium Restaurant Group has temporarily closed its Central City Tap House in downtown Kalamazoo. Shelly Pastor, operating partner with Millennium Restaurant Group, said the hope is to have the restaurant reopened soon. But that it is 100% dependent on how quickly they can staff the downtown eatery, Pastor said. Central City Tap House is one of eight restaurants in Kalamazoo, Portage and South Haven run by Millennium, which also offers catering services across the region. The industry-wide staffing shortage that surfaced in a post-pandemic landscape has led to many restaurants increasing wages to help attract and retain staff.

Moving container PODS turned into makeshift private dining rooms at Kalamazoo restaurants

Kalamazoo’s Millennium Restaurant Group is thinking outside of the igloo as it transforms moving containers into private dining rooms. The six PODS containers at Cove in Portage were opened temporarily before the holiday and were then closed to customers for further inspection by the fire marshal. They are awaiting final approval and are expected to open next week, said Vicky Thinnes, Millennium Restaurant Group Director of Sales and Marketing. The PODS containers at each location have their own aesthetic and give customers a unique experience. The state’s shutdown of indoor dining has been extended until Jan. 15, but the plan for Millennium Restaurant Group is to keep the outdoor dining option through the winter, Pastor said.

HOLLAND, Mich. – The senior pastor of a church in western Michigan has encouraged his congregation to catch the coronavirus to “get it over with” and calling it “all good.”Bart Spencer made the statements during a Nov. 14 sermon at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Holland, The Holland Sentinel reported. “It’s OK. Get it, get it over with, press on.”The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 389,032 as of Friday, including 9,661 deaths, state officials report. On Thursday, the state reported 380,343 total cases and 9,580 deaths. The sermon was posted on the church's website and shared on Facebook, the newspaper said. Spencer later told the newspaper that he and several members of his family contracted the virus and have recovered.

Pastor accused of peeing on sleeping woman during flight to Detroit

DETROIT – A pastor is being sued for millions of dollars on accusations he stood up in the middle of a flight to Detroit, walked over to a sleeping woman and peed on her, according to records. A complaint accuses Pastor Daniel Chalmers, a North Carolina resident, of drunkenly urinating on a woman during Delta flight 874 from Las Vegas to Detroit on Oct. 13 or Oct. 14. The flight was scheduled to depart at 11:30 p.m. PT Oct. 13 and land in Detroit at 6:15 a.m. The woman, a Detroit resident, got on the plane with her sister, according to the complaint. She screamed, waking up the other passengers on the plane, according to the complaint.
