On Tuesday, the Portland Trail Blazers formally introduced Chauncey Billups as their next head coach. Since Billups’ hiring, there has been controversy after details of a 1997 rape allegation resurfaced last week. In his introductory press conference, Trail Blazers general manager Neil Oshey addressed some of those questions. The results of the investigation gave the Trail Blazers the confidence that Billups was the man for the job. The Portland Trail Blazers parted ways with their head coach, Terry Stotts, on Friday after nine seasons. Howard, Michigan’s coach the past two seasons, is among the potential candidates for the job, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi. It’s not the first time Howard has been linked to an NBA job opening and it likely won’t be the last. Monte Morris has big game off bench as Nuggets take 3-2 series lead over Portland
Former Flint Beecher star Monte Morris came off the bench Tuesday night to help the Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers in double overtime and take a 3-2 lead in their first-round Western Conference playoff series. Morris, the 2013 Mr. Basketball in Michigan, scored 28 points and handed out five assists in 41 minutes during Denver’s 147-140 victory. The Nuggets can win the series Thursday when it returns to Portland for Game 6. Morris made 7 of 18 shots from the field that included 4 of 9 from 3-point range. DETROIT -- The Detroit Pistons are set to get to work this summer. They shot below 40 percent from the field in 11 games and averaged 45.2 percent shooting, which ranked 24th in the league. On average, their opponents shot 36.2 percent from beyond the arc while the Pistons made 35.1 percent of their 3-point attempts. McCollum scores 44 to lift Trail Blazers past Rockets in OT

After a missed 3-pointer by Lillard, Houston’s PJ Tucker was called for a loose ball foul on the rebound with 32 seconds left.

The Latest on the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on sports around the world:___The DePaul at Iowa State men’s basketball game scheduled for Sunday has been canceled under guidelines for COVID-19 protocols in the Blue Demons' program. They tested positive after the team returned home. They, along with all other NBA teams, began having players back in their facility for individual workouts last week. The team did not say if the positive tests involved players, staff or some combination of the two. The guard and forward says he tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Nov. 28 and is isolating in a Chicago hotel.
Gatorade gets cross-over appeal with Trail Blazers star and hip-hop artist Damián Lillard
Another top star in the National Basketball Association will be endorsing sports drink maker Gatorade -- but this one is a budding music star as well. Damián Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers' superstar guard, agreed to an endorsement deal with PepsiCo's Gatorade, the company announced on Friday. Outside of the NBA, the Blazers guard has gained fame in the music industry for his hip-hop recordings, released under the name Dame D.O.L.L.A. Top hip-hop acts have embraced and collaborated with Lillard, meaning that Gatorade gets a cross-over star endorsing their product on multiple platforms. The Lakers moved into the Western Conference semifinals by finishing off the Portland Trail Blazers with a 131-122 victory on Saturday night. It was the Lakers' first series victory since 2012 and set them up for a second-round matchup against Houston or Oklahoma City. The Rockets lead 3-2 with Game 6 on Monday, so the Lakers will have some time off. Anthony Davis said the Lakers know they have to get back to their usually stronger defense in the next round.

DETROIT Former Portland Trail Blazers star Cliff Robinson has died. Robinsons death was confirmed by the UConn Huskies on Saturday. He played for the Detroit Pistons from 2001 to 2003. In addition to playing for the Detroit Pistons and Portland Trail Blazers, he was also with the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors and New Jersey Nets during that period. Cliff Robinson, ex-UConn star, top NBA 6th man, dies at 53
Cliff Robinson guided UConn out from the bottom and almost helped take the Portland Trail Blazers to the top. Robinson helped the Blazers reach the NBA Finals in 1990 and 1992. RIP Clifford Robinson - some of my earliest memories of NBA basketball were of you as the lifeblood to those early/mid 90s Blazers teams. As a player coming in, heres this guy playing on TV for the Trail Blazers, watching him play, watching UConn being mentioned. Besides the Blazers, Robinson also played for Phoenix, Detroit, Golden State and the Nets.
