Back to the '80s: Andrew McCarthy writing 'Brat Pack' book
NEW YORK Actor-writer-director Andrew McCarthy, a 57-year-old father of three, keeps getting asked about his Brat Pack years in the 1980s. Grand Central Publishing announced Tuesday that McCarthy's Brat: An '80s Story will come out next spring. Grand Central is calling the book a revealing look at coming of age in a maelstrom, reckoning with conflicted ambition, innocence, addiction and masculinity. McCarthy is calling it a long-delayed reckoning. The term Brat Pack was popularized by an unflattering New York magazine story that ran in 1985 and portrayed the young actors as shallow and self-absorbed. Lisa Niemi opens up about life with Patrick Swayze
(CNN) - Who doesn't love Patrick Swayze in "Dirty Dancing," or "Ghost" or "Road House?" But the real Swayze will soon be seen in "I Am Patrick Swayze," a new documentary about his life made by the late actor's wife, Lisa Niemi. Niemi discussed Swayze's career and his 2009 death at the age of 57 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. "It's the worst thing in the world to go through," Niemi said of Swayze's cancer fight. "The first time Buddy (her nickname for Swayze) and I danced together was at a school exhibition," Niemi said.

(CNN) - The many shades of Patrick Swayze are revealed through interviews with his friends and co-stars in the upcoming documentary "I Am Patrick Swayze." In a trailer released Thursday, his "Ghost" co-star Demi Moore calls Swayze a someone who "needed to work harder" to be taken seriously in Hollywood and praises the duality for which he became known. "Patrick had something about him that was very rugged but that also had that beautiful, gentle, sensuous ability to move," she said. "I Am Patrick Swayze" explores Swayze's childhood in Texas, personal life and prolific and varied career through interviews and home movies. The film will premiere at the San Antonio Film Festival on Aug. 2 and debuts on the Paramount Network on Aug. 18.
