Conservative gathering to feature Trump's false fraud claims

Trump himself is headlining the three-day session in a Sunday speech that will be his first public appearance since leaving the White House on Jan. 20. Trump has been keeping a relatively low profile since he moved from the White House to Palm Beach a month ago. “I think the broader point will be: Here's where the Republican Party and conservative movement and the America First movement goes from here," said senior Trump adviser Jason Miller. Here we’ll see the president address the fact that the only divide in the Republican Party is between the elites and the conservative grassroots in the party." “In opposition, when you don’t have the White House, there are many more voices that lead the party,” Cotton said in an interview.

Palm Beach County refuses to lower flags for Rush Limbaugh

(AP Photo/Julie Smith, File)FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Palm Beach County defied Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday, refusing to lower its courthouse flags to half-staff in honor of the late conservative broadcaster Rush Limbaugh — a move that the governor's office called “petty.”The county's courthouse flags remained at full staff, ignoring Gov. He also ordered the Town of Palm Beach and the State Capitol in Tallahassee to fly their flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday. Officials in the Town of Palm Beach, the wealthy island enclave where Limbaugh lived for two decades, issued a statement saying its policy is to comply with governor's orders to lower the flags. Trump also lives in Palm Beach at his Mar-a-Lago club and he and Limbaugh were close friends.

Rush Limbaugh’s legacy of ashes

Before Rush Limbaugh's body was cold, Republican officials and thought leaders tripped over themselves to eulogize "an icon, patriot, and [an] American hero" and "a giant of the conservative movement." These tributes acknowledged a simple reality: His influence might have waned over the last few years, but no one in a generation had shaped the Republican Party like Rush. You could hardly open a browser without hitting a barrage of think pieces about Limbaugh's legacy: How he invented Trump. But after three decades on the national airwaves, Limbaugh's impact doesn't require that much explanation. This is Limbaugh's legacy.

Trump repeats election claims in interviews, is unchallenged

(AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster, File)NEW YORK – In the first television interviews of his post-presidency, Donald Trump repeated his false claims that the election was stolen from him 10 times — each instance unprompted and unchallenged. Trump emerged this week for interviews with Fox News Channel, Newsmax and One America News Network tied to the death of Rush Limbaugh. (AP Photo/John Minchillo)NEW YORK – Media outlets that appeal to conservatives offered condemnations, explanations and deflections following the U.S. Capitol riot by President Donald Trump's supporters, but little introspection. Several figures in conservative media suggested liberal politicians and mainstream media outlets are more outraged when Trump supporters are violent than they were about civil rights demonstrations last summer. “Were left-wing provocateurs leading the way into the Capitol?” questioned Thomas Lifson of American Thinker. White House virus aid offer is panned by Pelosi, Senate GOP

Scott Applewhite)WASHINGTON – A new White House coronavirus aid offer got bad reviews from both ends of the political spectrum on Saturday. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., rejected the most generous Trump administration plan to date as “one step forward, two steps back." The White House had boosted its offer before Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Pelosi spoke on Friday afternoon. The White House says its most recent offer before that was about $1.6 trillion. It's clear from Saturday's Senate GOP conference call that the skepticism or outright opposition hasn't changed.

He sounded great," Pence told reporters at Joint Base Andrews before heading west to Utah for this week's vice presidential debate. And we’re looking very much forward to the vice presidential debate,” he said. The spotlight on Pence will be especially bright Wednesday when he participates in the vice presidential debate with California Sen. Kamala Harris. “Normally, the vice presidential debate is inconsequential. Whether Trump secures another term or not, Pence is a likely Republican presidential contender in 2024.

In 'Boys State,' American politics in a teenage microcosm

Boys State may sound like a mere mock government exercise, but the film finds in Boys State a microcosm of American politics, one that frighteningly reflects much of the tenor of todays Washington and, in other ways, counters our more cynical grown-up government with stirring idealism. Boys State will give you both hope and fear for Americas future. Moss and McBaine were unaware of Boys State before reading a 2017 Washington Post article about a first in the programs history: Texas voted to succeed. Paul Barker, then Chairman of the American Legion Texas Boys State, was impressed by McBaine and Moss previous film ( "The Overnighters ) and figured a documentary could expand the program. The Texas Boys State, like the national political system, is a skewed representation.

Trump tries a new response after George Floyd's death

I feel very, very badly," Trump said Thursday of George Floyd's death while handcuffed and in the custody of Minneapolis police. But some activists doubt that Trump has suddenly evolved on the issue of police brutality and instead see election-year political calculations. Trump was very upset when he saw that video," White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Thursday. The White House and Department of Justice have long had the power to address these issues. Sharpton credited both the magnitude of outrage in response to Floyd's death as well as the upcoming election for the changed approach.

Trump the showman honors provocative talk-show host Limbaugh

Limbaugh told radio listeners on Monday that he had been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. He has been a nemesis of the American left since the launch of his pioneering show in 1985 during the Republican revolution of President Ronald Reagan. For years Limbaugh has helped to shape the partys agenda in the media. The Republican president did not wait to place the medal himself around Limbaughs neck, part of a White House tradition, and instead had Melania do the honors while Republican lawmakers applauded and cheered. One audience member shouted at Trump and was removed from the House chamber as the president spoke in defense of gun rights.
