Ex-Red Wings great favorited to be next coach by one oddsmaker
The Detroit Red Wings have been reluctant to raise Sergei Fedorov’s number to the rafters at Little Caesars Arena, yet one Las Vegas oddsmaker listed the Hall of Famer as the favorite to be the team’s next coach. BetOnline lists Fedorov as a 7-2 favorite to become the Red Wings’ next coach, ahead of experienced NHL coaches Pete DeBoer (4-1), Bruce Cassidy (9-2) and Barry Trotz (6-1), and former Swedish national coach Rikard Gronborg (6-1). Fedorov won three Stanley Cups with the Red Wings during 13 seasons with the team from 1990-2003 and is the most recent Detroit player to win the Hart Trophy as league MVP (1993-94). Feodrov was cheered when the Red Wings honored him during a pregame ceremony in 2015, one night after he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Here is the complete list of odds to become the Red Wings’ next coach, according to BetOnline.com.

Steve Yzerman hoisted the Stanley Cup for the first time 25 years ago on this date, and the Detroit Red Wings drained the demons of past playoff disappointments, ending a 42-year championship drought. The Red Wings defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 at Joe Louis Arena to complete the Cup Final sweep. The Red Wings won the opener 3-2 in Philadelphia and were never really threatened in the series. mlive.comRed Wings’ Grind Line honored as Michigan Treasures by Michigan Sports Hall of Fame
The four were honored Friday as Michigan Treasures during the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the MotorCity Casino Hotel Sound Board. It was something we never expected, but it was great.”After the Red Wings signed Kocur midway through the 1996-97 season, Bowman put him, Draper and Maltby together. Draper, Maltby and McCarty are among only five players (Lidstrom and Tomas Holmstrom the others) who played on all four of the Red Wings’ most-recent Stanley Cup-winning teams. It’s a great honor.”Maltby chuckled when someone remarked that The Production Line (Sid Abel centering Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay) is the only unit more famous in Red Wings’ lore than The Grind Line. “The Production Line, they’re all in the Hall of Fame, world-class players,” Maltby said.

Scotty Bowman recalls Red Wings’ Russian Five: ‘A special group’
Anytime you can have something unique, it’s a special group.”The Red Wings defeated the Flames 3-0. “We never had a plan to, ‘Let’s get a Russian Five,’ until we got Igor,” Bowman said. “We were looking for defense depth and somebody came up with the idea of Slava Fetisov,” Bowman said. They weren’t easy to play against.”When Bowman was coaching a junior team in Ottawa in 1956, a touring Russian team consisting of older players defeated his club 10-1. “I saw these guys plays and, Oh, my God!”A decade later, Red Wings fans had the same reaction to the franchise’s very own Russian Five.
mlive.comZibanejad scores 5 goals to lead Rangers past Caps in OT
The Rangers defeated the Capitals 6-5 in overtime; Zibanejad scored five goals. And, the last put him in the New York Rangers' record books and delivered them a big-time victory. Zibanejad is the first Rangers center with at least 35 goals in a season since Hall of Famer Eric Lindros in 2001-02. Zibanejad joined Don Murdoch (Oct. 12, 1976) and Mark Pavelich (Feb. 23, 1983) as Rangers with five goals in a game. That came after Zibanejad scored on a rebound with 1:42 remaining to give New York a brief 5-4 lead.
Steve Garagiola: 'The Russian Five' -- Everything we never knew
DETROIT I went with my wife and daughter the other night to see "The Russian Five." RELATED: Red Wings 'Russian Five' documentary goes to big screenI remember interviewing Red Wings General Manager Jimmy Devellano many times. I remember when Sergei Fedorov arrived, but I had forgotten the international stir it caused when he defected from Russia to join the Red Wings. We knew so little of the enormous professional and personal trials he faced both on and off the ice. If you were a fan in 1997, youll remember the joy of that Stanley Cup championship that scratched a 42-year itch.
Lightning threaten Red Wings' 62-win regular season record
The Lightning boast a 59-15-4 record, just three wins shy of the league's regular season wins record of 62. The Detroit Red Wings set that record back in 1995-96 when they went 62-13-7 for a total 131 points. The 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens held the regular season wins record at 60 before the Red Wings broke it nearly 20 years later. The Canadiens still hold the all-time single season points record of 132 because they had only 8 losses and 12 ties that season. The difference between the 1995-96 Red Wings and Lightning is that the Red Wings had to settle for seven ties.
