New mural on Detroit’s west side promotes solidarity

DETROIT – Well-known local artist Sheefy McFly put the finishing touches on a mural Friday. The mural, painted on the side of Flamingo Vintage, located near the intersection of Junction Avenue and Vernor Highway, was made to promote solidarity. The team behind the mural said the goal is to keep the conversations and movement active. A socially-distanced block party will take place Friday at 4 p.m. to unveil the mural. Poland is now drawing international attention to the developments in Belarus that resemble its own struggle for independence. The road to Polands freedom, that started 40 years ago, was difficult, rough and tragic but the Poles never lost hope, Mosbacher said in her tweet.

Blue Angels postpone Michigan flyover due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The U.S. Navy Blue Angels Michigan flyover in solidarity with coronavirus (COVID-19) frontline workers has been postponed. The flyover was scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances." The Navy’s Blue Angels and the Air Force’s Thunderbirds are flying over multiple cities throughout the U.S. in solidarity with frontline workers and first responders amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, officials said. “This is also our way of showing that we are all in this together and that America’s spirit will prevail.”The annual Thunder Over Michigan Airshow is scheduled to take place on August 29-30 in Ypsilanti. DETROIT - Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, of Massachusetts, is joining General Motors workers in protesting Sunday to express solidarity with them. Sunday marks the seventh day of the nationwide UAW strike against GM. Things seem to be moving forward on negotiations between General Motors and the UAW. READ IN-DEPTHOverall, union workers have shut down 33 manufacturing plants in nine states and 22 parts distribution warehouses. The UAW said workers are striking to secure fair wages, affordable healthcare, their share of profits, job security and a defined path to permanent seniority for temp workers.
