DETROIT - We were put in a bit of hypnotic trance as we experienced The Weeknd’s huge stadium show at Ford Field in Detroit on Wednesday, July 27. The concert kind of felt like being in an episode of “Stranger Things” with a horror-like feel complete with an 80s lightshow set to music. The Weeknd took the stage at 9:20 p.m. accompanied by numerous people covered from head to toe in red clothing which also concealed their faces. The floor seats were different at this concert. “Next time, we’ll do two nights in a row at Ford Field,” The Weeknd told the crowd as he promised to return in the future.

TAMPA, Fla. – The Weeknd’s Super Bowl halftime show opened with a barrage of hymns and chorus singers that made it feel like the pop star was coming to rescue us all. All the projection screens, fireworks and light displays in the world (and there were A LOT) couldn’t save us from a so-so performance that underwhelmed. Fireworks followed, but you were left still thinking about those jockstraps bandages (Because how could you not?). Sadly, the Weeknd’s performance wasn’t as memorable as the pomp and circumstance might suggest. His resume looks the part of a star, but The Weeknd’s Super Bowl performance didn’t live up to the hype.

The PepsiCo beverage brand is replacing its traditional Super Bowl ad slot with a new campaign to lead-in to its halftime show featuring the musician. Pepsi, which will be sponsoring the Super Bowl's halftime show for the tenth year, said this marks the first time the company has featured its halftime show talent in a commercial about the show. Kaplan said the company is taking an optimistic tack with its own ad. It will also have retail promotions with store displays in locations of stores including Kroger, Target, 7-Eleven, Dollar General.
