Teen group launches coat drive to help young people in Grand Rapids stay warm this winter
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – As winter storms become more frequent and days get colder, a coat drive aims to help keep teens and young adults warm this season. City officials announced Thursday that the Grand Rapids Mayor’s Youth Council is partnering with the Grand Rapids Public Library to collect new coats. The Mayor’s Youth Council consists of local teens in grades 9 through 12 who spend a school year learning about the functions of city government. The program is managed by Our Community’s Children (OCC), a public-private partnership between the city, Grand Rapids Public Schools and several other community partners.
