Members of Big Dog Ranch Rescue found the dog, now named "Miracle," on Friday in Marsh Harbour using infrared detection from a drone, the organization's spokesman Chase Scott told CNN. Scott said that Miracle was nearly crushed to death after a building collapsed, trapping him under broken glass, an air conditioning unit and building debris. Hurricane Dorian struck the Bahamas in early September, killing dozens of people and leaving hundreds of others missing. So far, Big Dog Ranch Rescue has saved 139 dogs.

Since recent storms didn't flood the shelter, Burrows thought they could survive Dorian. The silence meant more than 220 dogs and 50 cats had died in the flooding, according to Telfort and Burrows. Hundreds remain missing, likely buried under rubble on Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands by the strongest hurricane ever to hit the archipelago nation. Pat Allard, 83, of Massachusetts said she went to the Bahamas before the storm to take care of her condo. "When we were driving up, we could smell ... death," CNN's Patrick Oppmann said about Bevans Town on the island of Grand Bahama.

Hurricane warnings still in effectThe storm is still dangerous with maximum sustained winds equivalent to a hurricane. ABACO ISLAND, Bahamas - Adrian Farrington struggled to stay afloat with his 5-year-old son after Hurricane Dorian hit their home on Abaco Island in northwestern Bahamas. After an hour of wading in the water with his fractured leg, Farrington, 38, saw fins peeking nearby, he told the Nassau Guardian. He grabbed his son and put him on top of a roof for safety, away from the dangers lurking in the water. But before he could get up to the roof to hold Adrian Farrington Jr., a gust from the hurricane dragged the boy into the surge. He jumped underwater to save his sonAs soon as the storm surge swallowed his son, Farrington pushed through debris and rushed to the other side of the roof, where Adrian had vanished into the murky waters.

Since 1944, these major storms have slowed 17%, according to a recent study by NASA and NOAA scientists. This translates to significantly more rain and flooding for those in a hurricane's path. Scientists don't know exactly why hurricanes are moving more slowly. It dumped 51 inches in parts of Texas, setting a new US record for rainfall from a single storm. Scientists are still debating whether slowing hurricanes are linked to climate change.

Residents of the Bahamas are digging out of Hurricane Dorian's destruction, only to find they must rely on each other for help as rescue workers are thwarted by mountains of debris and under water roadways. (CNN) - Celebrity chef Jos Andrs who is famous for his humanitarian feeding efforts in areas stricken by disaster made his first trip to the Abaco Islands on Tuesday with food for those devastated by Dorian. Andrs told CNN he was able to fly 2,000 sandwiches and more than 1,000 oranges by helicopter to Abaco on Tuesday. Andrs said he's planning to transport between 5,000 and 7,000 more sandwiches to the island today. The chef told CNN he estimates he'll be serving 10,000 meals to the people of Abaco.

Helping to collect supplies was Elvrern Ross, a native of Nassau, Bahamas, and now a member of the Greater St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Coconut Grove, one of the institutions seeking donations. Ross arranged boxes of toothpaste and soap bars on a table Tuesday, working alongside the great-granddaughter of one of the Bahamian worshippers who founded St. Paul in 1896. "I wanted to volunteer to take my mind off all that stuff that is going on there," she said.
