Mike Duggan wanted to change Michigan politics. The polls had other ideas

Former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced he is withdrawing from the Michigan governor’s race, citing poor polling, insufficient national funding as an independent, and an unfavorable political climate. Despite an 18-month campaign and numerous community meetings, Duggan said there was no realistic path forward and emphasized he did not want to act as a spoiler. The announcement stunned his campaign team and drew responses from both Democratic and Republican state leaders, who acknowledged his impact on the race. Duggan dismissed rumors about pursuing another job, stating he had not discussed any future positions.
