Detroit family challenges water bills, claiming 110K gallons used in just 2 months

A Detroit mother and son dispute water bills that show they used over 110,000 gallons in two months, far exceeding typical usage for their small home. Despite a meter replacement and a plumber’s inspection finding no leaks, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department attributed the spike to a leak and placed the family on a payment plan. Department director Gary Brown said they would apply a one-time leak policy and adjust the bill to reflect average usage, aiming to resolve the issue and provide a fresh start.
