Mayor Mary Sheffield calls Detroit fireworks night a success despite police shooting

As thousands of people gathered downtown Monday night to watch fireworks, Detroit police were dealing with a shooting by one of their own. An officer shot a man, they say, who had a gun, near Farmer and Bates streets. Despite the incident, Mayor Mary Sheffield’s team is calling last night a success.
