Tracking weekend, Christmas rain: What to know in Metro Detroit

Warm, wet holiday weekend ahead

4Warn Weather – TGIF!

Our Friday begins with a dreary start with a few isolated sprinkles and low-lying clouds. We’ll have a mild morning with low temperatures closer to our average highs this time of year.

Clouds hang on throughout the day. Temperatures will be very similar to yesterday, topping out around 40 degrees.

Scattered rain chances are possible during the afternoon, but they won’t be common. It isn’t until late in the evening when more widespread showers are expected to arrive.

Tonight’s sunset is at 5:05 p.m.

By around 9 p.m., the widespread rain will reach the Howell area and begin to creep closer to Metro Detroit. At around midnight, rain will become widespread across Metro Detroit.

The showers will continue through the night and linger into Saturday.

Christmas weekend forecast

Most of the rain on Saturday will be done by midday. We’ll dry out Saturday afternoon and all of Sunday.

Even milder air moves into the region on Christmas Eve on Sunday, with highs near 50 degrees.

Highs will stay in the low 50s on Christmas Day. It will feel more spring-like for the holiday.

There is a chance we’ll see rain on Monday for Christmas Day, but it’s likely our region won’t see that moisture until the afternoon, starting around 4 p.m. There may be some showers overnight Sunday into Monday.

Rain chances will last into Tuesday and through Wednesday next week.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, a Pacific storm will continue to bring heavy rain to southern California before pushing inland into the Southwest on Friday, affecting portions of southern Arizona. Blizzard conditions are expected in southwest Alaska. Otherwise, tranquil weather continues for the East.
