Rain, light snow possible before week ends in Metro Detroit

Wet weather chances persist on Opening Day

4Warn Weather – Keep the umbrella on hand today! We have another cloudy and cool day on this Thursday. Expect spotty rain chances throughout the day, and a chance for a few snowflakes after sunset.

Thursday begins with light rain and snow showers across the Thumb.

Otherwise, conditions will be cloudy and misty for most of Southeast Michigan today.

Isolated to widely scattered rain showers are possible this afternoon and evening. Highs will be in the mid-40s, below average once again.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:03 p.m.

Snow, more rain possible

Scattered snow showers are possible again late Thursday night across the Thumb, down into Port Huron and the Irish Hills. Any light accumulation, if any, will be confined to elevated and grassy surfaces.

Those shower chances will last into Friday afternoon.

Friday highs will be in the 40s, but temps will feel like the 30s due to whipping winds. So, bundle up if you are heading out to Comerica Park for the Detroit Tigers Opening Day.

Warmer weekend

We’ll warm up to more seasonal temperatures this weekend. Some sunshine will return late Saturday and Sunday.

Rain showers become possible again Sunday night into Monday. A total solar eclipse is happening across North America on Monday, April 8.

Right now, the solar eclipse forecast on Monday in Metro Detroit shows highs near 60 degrees, more clouds than sun, and a chance of a few showers.

The same forecast applies to areas of northern Ohio, in case you are planning on traveling into the path of totality.

If you are itching for warmer weather, we will rise into the upper 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, heavy snow continues over upstate New York, northern New England, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the central Appalachians on Thursday. Temperatures will be 10-20 degrees below average over parts of the Ohio Valley, too.
