DETROIT – When will it stop snowing Thursday in Metro Detroit, and how much more snow will we get by then?

Metro Detroiters woke up to a fresh coating of snow Thursday, and it’s wreaking havoc on the roadways.

The snow was still falling during the morning commute. It was a classic lake-effect snow event overnight Wednesday into Thursday, as the snow was driven right into the I-96/I-696 corridor.

Southeast Michigan’s winter weather advisory is set to expire at 10 a.m., and the 4Warn Weather team is forecasting up to another 2 inches of snow between 7 a.m. and that 10 a.m. deadline.

Afterward, some snow showers will hang around into the afternoon and early evening hours. But accumulation won’t be significant after 10 a.m.

Some areas around Metro Detroit, including Eastpointe, got as much as 4 inches of snow, and most of it fell between 3 a.m. and the morning commute. That contributed to the difficult driving conditions.
