After a dry end to the week with the cloud cover sticking around and some rain showers on Friday morning, we’ve got an active weather weekend on the way to Metro Detroit.
We will bring a chance of rain showers late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, then colder air starts to move into the region as an area of low pressure works south of Metro Detroit.
This will bring a chance of rain and snow showers for most of the region, but the further north and west you go for Metro Detroit, the colder air will hang on, and snow showers will be the primary rule through a good chunk of the day on Sunday. This does look like our first shot of accumulating snow by the end of the weekend and in the early next week. We could see a few inches of snow well Northwest of Metro Detroit, but what actually accumulates on grassy and elevated surfaces will not be much as the ground is too warm to sustain any real accumulation.
We only need 1/10 of an inch of snow to qualify as our first accumulating snow, and I anticipate that, especially by Monday.
Any rain and snow showers will switch completely over to snow showers for everybody late Sunday night and continue until Monday.
Thanks to a northwest flow kicking in.
This is our traditional lake-effect snow shower event, but it’s also going to bring in a reinforcing shot of colder air by the start of next week. High temperatures are expected to head into the mid to upper 40s, will drop into the upper 30s by Sunday, and continue to fall into the mid 30s by the start of next week on Monday.
We will keep some cloud cover in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, with warmer temperatures starting to move into the region. High temperatures rebounding to right around 40° by Tuesday, then into the upper 40s by Wednesday.
Another chance of rain showers moves into the region by the time we get to Thursday. High temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-40s for Thursday. Drier weather and some sunshine return to the forecast by the time we get to the end of the week on Friday. High temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-40s by Friday afternoon.
