After one round of snow work throughout the region on Tuesday, we’ve got another round of snow moving in, looking ahead to New Year’s Eve on Wednesday.
The snow in the forecast is thanks to another disturbance rolling through the region throughout much of the day here on Wednesday. Expect snow to overspread the region by mid to late morning, and stick around through the mid to late evening hours tonight. High temperature is remaining cold, into the upper 20s and lower 30s by late Wednesday afternoon. Winds will remain breezy throughout the day, gusting as high as 30 MPH throughout much of the day.
Compared to the last few systems we have seen, the snow we are expecting throughout the day on Wednesday will be relatively late. Most places should see around an inch of snow; there could be a few places that see snow totals as high as 2 inches, but those should be a few and far between.
Once the snow winds down, we will clear the cloud cover pretty quickly overnight Wednesday night into New Year’s Day on Thursday. If you’re going to be celebrating overnight with that midnight ball drop Wednesday night, expect partly cloudy to mainly clear skies. Temperatures will drop into the teens by midnight, with wind chills on either side of 0° for what it will feel like outside as well.
With the upper-level storm track continuing to remain across the region through the end of the week, expect the cloud cover to stick around through the day on Thursday, after we start the day with a little bit of sunshine. Mostly cloudy skies can be expected by the afternoon and into the evening. High temperatures remain remaining into low 20s by Thursday afternoon. We will keep the chance of a few flurries in the forecast by Thursday as well.
Cloud cover sticks around through the end of the week on Friday, and into the upcoming weekend for both Saturday and Sunday as well. We are expecting to bring a few flurries back into the forecast by Sunday as a disturbance works its way well north of the region. High temperatures remaining in the upper 20s Friday through the end of the weekend on Sunday, with overnight lows remaining in the mid to upper teens all three nights.
The dry weather continues as of right now, looking ahead into the start of next week as well. Mostly cloudy skies can be expected both Monday and Tuesday. High temperatures are starting to get warmer, we’ll warm into the low 30s on Monday, then into the mid-30s by Tuesday.
