Our heat wave continues to grip the region, looking ahead into the day on Thursday, so expect more extreme heat, and humidity as we work throughout the day. Our Extreme Heat Warning continues until 8:00 PM for all of Southeastern Michigan. Expect high temperatures to warm into the upper 90s to near 100° once again this afternoon. But once you factor in the humidity, expect heat index values to go as high as 105° to 107° this afternoon and into this evening.
Looking ahead to the end of the week, we will bring in the chance of a few showers and thunderstorms by Friday afternoon and Friday evening. With the heat and humidity around, some storms that develop could become strong to severe.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire region under a marginal risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather. Damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall will be possible with any thunderstorm that becomes strong to severe.
As the center of high-pressure that has given us the extreme heat and humidity throughout the week breaks down and moves off to the south and east, this will allow chances for showers and thunderstorms to continue looking ahead of the weekend for both Saturday and Sunday.
High temperatures will still remain warm into the lower 90s on Saturday, then dropping into the upper 80s on Sunday. But once you factor in the humidity, we are still expecting high heat index values going through the entire weekend.
Storm chances will move out of the region, looking ahead of the first half of next week. Expect the warm temperatures to be sticking around with the sunshine as well.
High temperatures warming back up into the upper 80s to near 90°, with heat index values also soaring into the upper 80s and lower 90s to start next week as well.
