Some Metro Detroiters may encounter patchy fog early this morning, but any reduced visibility will quickly improve after sunrise. Once the fog lifts, expect another warm and mainly sunny summer day with afternoon temperatures climbing into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Humidity will gradually increase throughout the day, setting the stage for a more active weather pattern as we head into Thursday.
Showers and Thunderstorms Likely Thursday
A cold front approaching the Great Lakes will trigger showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and Thursday night. The atmosphere will be loaded with moisture, allowing storms to produce locally heavy rainfall and periods of torrential downpours.
There is a marginal (level 1) risk for severe storms with an isolated damaging wind gust possible in the strongest thunderstorms. If you have outdoor plans Thursday afternoon/evening, be prepared for changing weather conditions and monitor the latest forecast.
Rain Chances Diminish Friday
A lingering shower remains possible on Friday, especially across communities closer to the Ohio state line, but many locations across Metro Detroit will experience improving conditions as the system exits the region.
Comfortable Weekend Ahead
The weekend looks much quieter, with seasonable temperatures and dry weather returning to Southeast Michigan. Highs will settle back into the low to mid-80s, making for excellent conditions for outdoor plans.
Another Heat Wave Could Develop Next Week
Looking ahead, forecast models continue to signal another surge of summer heat next week. There is growing potential for three or more consecutive days with temperatures reaching 90 degrees or higher, which would qualify as another heat wave across Metro Detroit.
