Metro Detroit will squeeze out one more warm summer day before a more unsettled weather pattern settles in for the weekend.

Expect increasing clouds throughout the day as temperatures climb to near 90 degrees this afternoon. While the daytime hours will remain dry for most locations, the weather becomes more active tonight as the next storm system approaches the Great Lakes. If you’re making weekend plans, don’t expect a washout, but be prepared for periodic showers and a few rumbles of thunder.

Multiple rounds of showers and a few embedded thunderstorms are expected to move through Southeast Michigan on Saturday and Sunday. At this time, thunderstorms are not expected to be severe, but periods of moderate to heavy rainfall and occasional lightning could impact outdoor plans at times throughout the weekend. The increased cloud cover and rainfall will also bring cooler temperatures. Highs on both Saturday and Sunday will top out around 80 degrees, providing a break from today’s summer heat.

Conditions improve quickly as we head into next week. High pressure returns to the region, bringing dry weather, plenty of sunshine, and a gradual warming trend. Temperatures will climb through the 80s early in the week before approaching 90 degrees by the middle of next week.
