Severe weather potential diminishes in SE Michigan; flood watch remains in effect

Expect scattered thunderstorms Thursday

DETROIT – How about some good weather news for a change?

Our severe potential is quickly diminishing. Our latest model data suggests if (and that's a big if right now) any overnight thunderstorms move in, that should happen closer to daybreak, which will be the most stable part of the day. So with little instability and unfavorable winds above the surface, widespread severe weather looks unlikely.

For that reason we're ending our Severe Weather Alert.

Flood Watch remains in effect

Moisture amounts are still high, so any storm will likely bring intense downpours. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday morning. Overnight lows will remain in the low-to-mid 70s with tropical humidity staying put.

Expect scattered thunderstorms on Thursday. It's possible a few of these could become strong. But again, we'll be watching for isolated flooding issues with any downpours. Highs will reach the mid-to-upper 80s in most spots, with heat index readings in the low-to-mid 90s.

Big changes on Friday, as the humidity goes on hiatus and storm chances leave as well.  Check out the 10 Day Forecast to see how long that lasts.
