Metro Detroit weather: Thunderstorm chances arrive with weekend

Severe storm chances throughout weekend

DETROIT – The 4 Live Radar is clean Thursday afternoon. If a thunderstorm is able to pop, it will likely be in our far South Zone, close to the Ohio state line. Most of us will stay dry, but hot and humid -- although the humidity is a bit lower than it was on Wednesday afternoon. Lows will drop to near 70 degrees.

An air quality alert has been posted for much of southeast Michigan on Friday. Plenty of sunshine will be around with amounts of humidity similar to what we've been experiencing. Temperatures will peak near 90 degrees with heat index readings in the low to mid-90s.

We should remain storm-free until very late Friday night or closer to daybreak on Saturday morning.

That's not the end of our storm chances. Depending on the timing of Saturday morning's storms, we might see redevelopment in the afternoon or evening. It’s possible either the morning or afternoon storms could become strong or severe. Saturday’s highs will reach the mid-80s, with heat index readings in the upper 80s.

On Sunday, warm and humid conditions will continue, and storm chances will return. Highs will be in the mid-80s.

Relief will begin next week with temperatures and humidity dropping on Monday.
