Metro Detroit weather: Temps could reach 80 degrees today

DETROIT – Cooler air has taken its time getting into Metro Detroit this morning, but we’re seeing more and more 40s in the North Zone, and 50s as you head out a little closer to Detroit.

Skies are becoming mostly clear and you will get plenty of sunshine on your Thursday as highs build into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees for many of us with a light breeze SW 5-10 mph. Rain and isolated thundershowers arrive late tonight from Northwest to Southeast but it will likely be overnight before our first round of rain arrives.

Friday forecast

A frontal boundary will loom over SE Lower Michigan Friday bringing clouds and rain chances.

A round of moderate to heavy rain will spread across Metro Detroit before sunrise Friday which may slow down that morning drive. The clouds and on and off rain chances will keep temps down and likely in the 60s most of the day tomorrow. Model data shows shower chances increasing in the late afternoon and evening and that will make for some wet High School Football Friday night.

Weekend weather

Saturday should start dry and warm as highs will be closer to 80 degrees and the winds will be cranking SSW 10-25 mph. But, a cold front will swing through in the afternoon bringing rain and thunder chances after 2pm, and it could be wet, wild,  and windy for tailgaters of the Michigan State at Michigan football game Saturday in Ann Arbor. The game is at night so we hope conditions calm down by then which is very likely at this point.

Morning showers are still possible Sunday, but most of the day is dry and becoming mostly sunny with temps in the mid to upper 70s.  Track sky conditions, warming temps, and our next storm chances with our Local4Casters app.
