Ypsilanti Township shooting suspect surrenders after hours-long standoff

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 36-year-old from Ypsilanti Township was taken into custody after a barricaded situation Sunday morning.

According to authorities, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Eagle Trace Drive, near the intersection of Textile and Whitaker roads, at about 10 a.m. on reports of a shooting.

The suspected shooter retreated into the home after the shooting and refused to come out.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

After nearly five hours of negotiation, the suspect surrendered to law enforcement and was taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
