Vertical Detroit

DETROIT – Behind the Detroit Opera House is a wine lover’s paradise.

Vertical Detroit, owned by Gross Pointe Woods native Rémy Lutfy, was established in 2015. Although the restaurant is relatively young, Lutfy’s love for wine is deeply rooted in her and her family.

The restaurant specializing in wine has won multiple awards recognizing the different types of wines from all over the world displayed here.

This restaurant is owned by a family that has been in the wine business for three generations. The wines offered are categorized as collectibles, and the owner says they try to serve as many quality wines as possible.

Customers can wine and dine and enjoy both domestic and imported wines. Lutfy says that her restaurant tries to stay up to date with the current wine trends, as Michigan is a strong market for the beverage. Vertical Detroit rotates its menus every season. The owner tells us that Vertical Detroit offers over 100 wines by the glass and that it has thousands of wines on its wine list.

Lutfy’s love for wine has been passed on to her, as her father and grandfather both owned wine stores in Metro Detroit. The Vertical Detroit owner said she has interned at different wineries in Napa Valley and initially went to the University of California to study winemaking. Growing up, Lutfy worked at her family’s Fine Wine Source store in Livonia. Fine Wine Source has been dedicated to serving Metro Detroit wine lovers for almost 30 years.
