The “Mom-Style” trend

You may want to turn to your mom’s closet for the hottest fashions

Taking the kids to school, working, and doing chores around the house may mean sacrificing one’s style, but no so fast, much of that “mom-style” is now popular.

Local 4 Style Editor Jon Jordan joined Kim DeGiulio to share why you might want to “honor” mom by raiding her closet this Mother’s Day.

To begin with, one item we know is trending is what is known as “The Mom Jean.” Mom jeans, according to Jon, are vintage and back in style. These jeans feature a higher waist and a fuller straight leg. The concept is to have a cinched waist and a long full trouser to appear thinner.

The second trend Jon mentioned is the idea of sensible shoes. He says that Birkenstocks are back in style, but recommends purchasing a lower-cost pair of similar sandals and dressing them up with flower appliqués or craft paint.

Third, the style editor suggested that you get crafty with some of your mother’s scarves and brooches. He says that placing brooches together may make a big statement on a coat or a denim jacket, and that this is a unisex principle.

Finally, as Jon has said before, all things pearl are in fashion. He says mom’s pearls can be embellished and worn in multiple layers. He also said it’s a look that is not just for women but for men too.
