There’s a renewed energy around Detroit Public Schools Community District with major wins, a bold new message, and a growing focus on student voices.
DPSCD’s new slogan is “We Will Because We Can.”
“It’s an affirmation for our students to build their self confidence, their self-efficacy,” explained Sharlonda Buckman, the district’s chief engagement officer. “It is also for everybody across the Detroit community to get involved with the school district. The ‘we’ being having great teachers. The unity of everybody working together for the success of our students,” she added.
The district is inviting students to help tell their stories of success through a new influencer initiative.
Student influencer Janiah Smith called the experience lifechanging.
“I’m really excited to be able to use my voice in the way that I’ve been able to lately,” Smith said.
