Wayne State officer donates organs: 'Will help up to 75 people'

DETROIT – In a statement released by Gift of Life Michigan, Officer Collin Rose has donated his organs which will help up to 75 people though use of his tissue.

Gift of Life Michigan is a non-profit geared toward organ and tissue donation for transplantation through special programs for those in need of organ donation services.

Officer Collin Rose died after he was shot in the head Tuesday night in Detroit.

Police said the officer, of St. Clair Shores, was stopping someone on a bicycle when he was shot once in his head. Rose was investigating car break-ins in Detroit's Woodbridge neighborhood. 

Police have since arrested Deangelo Davis in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with first-degree murder, felony firearm, murder of a police officer, felony firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.

He was arraigned Friday morning and is being held in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
