DTE Energy adds $30,000 to reward for Wayne State Sgt. Collin Rose's killer

DETROIT – DTE Energy is matching the current reward offered for information leading to an arrest in the shooting death of Sgt. Collin Rose.

The reward now totals $30,000, police announced during a Friday afternoon news conference.

Rose, 29, a five-year veteran of the Wayne State University Police Department, was shot once in the head Tuesday when he stopped someone on a bicycle while investigating vehicle break-ins in Detroit’s Woodbridge neighborhood.

Another Wayne State officer in the area found Rose lying face-down on the ground near the corner of Lincoln and Brainard streets.

Rose underwent surgery at Detroit Receiving Hospital and was on life support, surrounded by family, until he succumbed to his wounds Wednesday evening.

A massive manhunt began as Michigan State Police, Detroit police and Wayne State University police searched the area.

DeAngelo Davis, 31, was taken into custody hours later. It would later be determined that Davis was not the shooter.

Davis was charged Nov. 25 with first-degree murder, murder of a police officer, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearms violations. The charges against Davis were later dropped.

"All murder charges against DeAngelo Davis will be dismissed," Wayne county Prosecutor Kym Worthy said at a news conference. "He is no longer a suspect at this time. As you can imagine, the officer's from the task force, including the Michigan State Police and the Detroit Police department, have been working diligently and literally, literally, around the clock along with members of my office on this case."

Authorities were unable to find the gun used to shoot Rose and a $5,000 reward is offered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Police released surveillance video of a person who, police said, may have witnessed the deadly shooting. That person has not come forward, nor was anyone able to identify the potential witness.

The university said none of the school's officers had ever died in the line of duty and it had been 36 years since an officer was wounded by gunfire.

Officers from across Michigan paid tribute as they escorted Rose from the hospital to the medical examiner’s office in a processional of police cruisers. K9 officers from across the state gathered in a procession outside the public visitation to pay respects. A massive funeral mass was held at St. Joan of Arch Church in St. Clair Shores.

Rose was engaged and was to be married next October.
