Trump supporter waves gun at woman over Elizabeth Warren bumper sticker, Minnesota police say

Joseph Schumacher, 27, was arrested after police said he waved a gun at a woman on the road over her bumper sticker supporting presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren.

MOORHEAD, Minn. – A Trump supporter was arrested Monday after waving a handgun at a woman during an argument on the road over her bumper sticker supporting Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, Minnesota police said.

Joseph Schumacher, 27, is facing a felony charge of making terroristic threats and a misdemeanor charge of having a loaded handgun inside a vehicle without a permit.

Officers responded about 12 p.m. to a disturbance call in which an 18-year-old woman reported that a man, later identified as Schumacher, pulled up alongside her while she was driving and began arguing about politics.

Schumacher yelled at the woman, expressing his dislike for her bumper sticker while pointing at his own sticker, according to a news release from the Moorhead Police Department. Police spokesperson Capt. Deric Swenson later said Schumacher's vehicle had a bumper sticker expressing support for President Trump.

Authorities said the verbal confrontation continued for eight blocks before Schumacher got out in front of the woman's car and waved a handgun.

"The victim initially thought it wasn't going to be serious," Swenson told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "Then things escalated seriously."

Officers said they located Schumacher at a restaurant in a nearby shopping center and found a loaded handgun inside his vehicle.

A passenger in Schumacher's vehicle spoke with authorities and "confirmed the actions of the suspect driver," the release said.

Schumacher remained at the Clay County Jail on Tuesday.
