Clarkston students build new roof for single mother who couldn’t afford it

Students team up with community partners

CLARKSTON, Mich. – Students at Clarkston Community Schools helped a single mother who couldn’t afford to get her roof replaced.

The Clarkston Construction Tech Student Builders teamed up with community partners to help Dawn Pineda.

“Depending on which way the rain was coming, it was leaking in one spot, and if the rain came another way, it was coming in another spot, so it was very stressful,” Pineda said.

Pineda said she works full-time to pay her bills and there was no way she could afford to replace the roof.

“They’re really helping a lot, so I’m very very thankful to them, very,” she said.

Roofer Terry Burr, the Clarkston Community Church Handy Ministry, the Great Lakes Ace Hardware on Sashabaw Road and My Habitat Clarkston helped the students with the project.
