Man attempts to carjack couple at Grosse Pointe Farms gas station

Attempted carjacker taken into custody

GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. – A couple stopped for gas in Grosse Pointe Farms Wednesday night when a man tried to carjack them.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. at a Shell gas station at Mack Avenue and Moross Road at the Detroit-Grosse Pointe Farms border.

A witness said he heard a woman screaming shortly after a Buick Enclave pulled up to a pump No. 1. He said the woman was screaming while a carjacker was throwing punches at her.

He said he heard the woman tell her husband she had the keys to the SUV.

Another bystander saw a police car down the street and went for help. When police began arriving the carjacker fled the scene.

Witnesses on scene said they learned from police that a suspect was taken into custody.
