Clinton Township teen killed during shooting at grad party in Roseville

20-year-old Eastpointe man in custody

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – Those closest to Luke Filary are having a hard time grasping that their friend is gone.

The 18-year-old, of Clinton Township, was shot and killed at his cousin's graduation party early Sunday morning in Roseville.

"It's just crazy because I was just talking to him recently," said Dominick Catoni. "He's gone now. It's crazy."

Overturned coolers and leftover party decorations were still on the lawn Sunday night. The graduation party was held at a home near 12 Mile and Hayes roads.

Group leaves, returns

Roseville police said four people were asked to leave the party after they were involved in an argument. The group returned a while later and one person started shooting at the home. Filary was struck and rushed to a hospital where he died.

"Really good guy," said friend Gelos Wright. "He doesn't deserve that. His family doesn't deserve that, at all."

Eastpointe man arrested

The 20-year-old man suspected of killing Filary is in custody. Roseville police arrested him less than 24 hours after the shooting.

He's from Eastpointe and could be facing a judge as early as Monday.

"I just don't understand what was going through their heads. I don't know ... I can't ever relate to that," said Catoni.
