Detroit police investigate whether 8-year-old boy's death was caused by alcohol consumption

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating whether an 8-year-old boy's death Thursday morning was the result of him drinking an alcoholic beverage. 

Family members called EMS about 1:53 a.m. Thursday for the boy who was sick at a home in the 19900 block of Conley Street. Police said the grandmother said the boy may have drank an alcoholic concoction made by a family friend.

The child was rushed to a hospital where he went into cardiac arrest and died.

Detroit police are investigating. 

The Wayne County Medical Examiner will have to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of the death.
