Downed power lines spark car fire in Auburn Hills

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – High winds are to blame for a massive car fire outside a home in Auburn Hills on Monday morning.

A tree fell, knocking down power lines onto a car parked in a driveway in Auburn Hills. The scene was on the 200 block of Juniper Street, near Adams and Auburn roads.

Auburn Hills police were called to the scene just before 7 a.m. Fire personnel arrived to find that a large tree had fallen on high voltage electrical lines which brought the lines down over a parked vehicle. The lines were energized.

Due to the high voltage of the lines, fire personnel were unable to extinguish the vehicle fire until DTE shut down the power. Once the electricity was shut down, the fire was extinguished without further incident.

The fire also damaged a second vehicle in the driveway as well as a travel trailer parked nearby.

No injuries have been reported.
