Man breaks into Royal Oak flower shop, causes $12,000 in damage while spending days there

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Police said a man broke into a Royal Oak flower shop while it was closed and spent days inside, causing $12,000 in damages.

Royal Oak police were called around 2 p.m. Tuesday (March 30) to Delux Floral on Leafdale Boulevard.

The owner of the business said she arrived for work and found some of her belongings out in front of the building. She said she saw a man in the window, so she called 911.

The man, later identified as Darien Robert-Alden Cook, 46, fled on foot, according to authorities.

Officers found Cook in the area, and he was in possession of several items stolen from the business, police said. He was taken into custody.

Police said Cook had been inside the flower shop for several days while it was closed. He ransacked the business and caused about $12,000 worth of damage, according to officials.

Cook was arraigned Wednesday (March 31) at 44th District Court on charges of breaking and entering with intent, larceny in a building and malicious destruction of property.

He is being held in lieu of $15,000 bail and must wear a tether, if released. The next court date is scheduled for 11 a.m. April 9.
