Harrison Township Fire Department frees raccoon from sewer grate

Creature native to US, Canada known for its intelligence gets stuck, looks foolish and adorable

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A raccoon that found itself stuck in a sewer grate in Harrison Township was freed by fire crews Tuesday.

According to authorities, animal control was notified of a raccoon with its head stuck in a sewer grate off Clearview Drive, near South River Road. Fire crews initially used soap to free the creature and was eventually able to release the raccoon from the grate using cooking oil.

The animal was not harmed.
