Romulus Community Schools superintendent’s supporters want answers about his job status

Report recommends outside agency oversee finances

ROMULUS, Mich. – An investigation into financial practices put the superintendent of the Romulus Community School District on the sidelines for weeks.

That investigation is over and a lot of people are asking if Superintendent Benjamin Edmondson is coming back to work or not.

Update: Romulus school board members debate superintendent’s return after investigation into financial practices

“We want to know why it was not on the agenda for tonight’s meeting,” Sarah Carter said.

Carter is the president of the Romulus Education Association.

It’s still not clear whether Edmondson is coming back from administrative leave.

“There was nothing directly related to something Dr. Edmondson did,” Carter said. “We do not understand why he’s not being brought back to work.”

School board president Debi Pyles is fighting back against allegations the board hasn’t been transparent.

“I think they’re in the dark because of the narrative that’s been told,” Pyles said. “Our information is on the website. It’s at board meetings.”

The report recommended that an outside agency needs to oversee the finance department for several months.

“We had $700,000 of competitive bidding that wasn’t done. I don’t know who’s responsible for that. We know that IRS payments weren’t made,” Pyles said.
