Romulus school board members debate superintendent’s return after investigation into financial practices

Tense school board meeting held Monday

ROMULUS, Mich. – A tense school board meeting was held Monday in Romulus where some members called for the return of its superintendent.

Benjamin Edmondson was placed on leave last month amid an investigation into financial practices. In a four to three vote that amendment to bring Edmondson back did not pass.

Nearly 90 minutes later another battle between board members played out.

Frustration lies in the fact the superintendent remains on paid administrative leave. At one point during the meeting Romulus police had to escort a parent out.

“The security felt threatened by the comments by the remarks we were making,” parent Durrice Green said. “We were shouting our disapproval of what was actually going on in the meeting.”

The meeting ended with no indication whether Edmondson will return.
