KENTWOOD, Mich. – Deputies with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a 16-year-old boy and 40-year-old woman were shot in a high school parking lot in Gaines Township just as a graduation ceremony was finishing.

Fortunately, both victims are expected to be ok, officials say.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. Thursday (May 19) in Kentwood, Michigan, according to authorities.

Police say two white sedans opened fire as people were leaving the graduation and then drove off.

WOOD-TV reports the shooting happened after the Crossroads Alterative High School graduation. There were about 60 students with family and friends at the graduation, which took place at East Kentwood’s stadium, school officials said.

A middle school concert was also happening in the school’s auditorium at the time, WOOD-TV reports.

Officials say the suspect is still at-large. No additional details have been revealed.
