Detroit man charged with attempted murder

DETROIT – Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged two people with multiple felonies in connection with a shooting and an assault that took place on Detroit’s east side.

The charges stem from an Oct. 15 shooting that killed 51-year-old Phebe Williams. Police believe there was an altercation during a baby shower on Edmore Drive that resulted in Shawanda Woods shooting Williams in the neck.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Woods drove to a nearby police station, got out of her vehicle and was struck by vehicle driven by Williams’ son, Leandre Devon Love, as she walked toward the building. Police said Love was at the baby shower and had followed Woods to the police station after the shooting.

She was hospitalized for her injuries.

Woods, a 44-year-old woman from Ypsilanti, was charged with second-degree murder and felony firearm. She remains in police custody.

Love, a 36-year-old man from Detroit, was charged with assault with intent to murder and felonious assault. He was given a $100,000 personal bond.

Both Woods and Love are expected to return to court Nov. 1 for their probable cause conferences.
