68-year-old man arrested after leading police on pursuit in Monroe County

Police say man fled through southern Ida Township and struck several sets of stop sticks

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 68-year-old man who led them on a pursuit.

The incident occurred on Thursday (Dec. 7) at 9:40 p.m. in Ida Township.

Officials say they received a call from family members of the motorist, who was believed to be operating while under the influence of drugs.

Police say the caller was following behind the suspect in Whiteford Township and provided location updates for deputy sheriffs who were responding to the area.

Officials say Deputy Sheriff Christine Ost intercepted the vehicle near the intersection of Secor and Ida Center roads, but the suspect refused to pull over when a traffic stop was attempted.

Police say the suspect fled through southern Ida Township and struck several sets of stop sticks that had been deployed by assisting deputy sheriffs along the way.

Officials say the suspect was finally taken into custody after pulling over on Crabb Road, south of Erie Road, in Bedford Township.

Police say the 68-year-old man was from Monroe, Michigan, and he was lodged at the Monroe County Jail.
