Berkley police arrest 2 suspected porch pirates

BERKLEY, Mich. – Police in Berkley have taken two people into custody in connection with a string of porch thefts over the last two weeks.

According to authorities, police were alerted to two people who were reportedly stealing packages from porches. Police said the two were apprehended as they attempted another theft on Bacon Avenue, just north of 11 Mile Road.

Amir Walker, a 20-year-old man, and a 17-year-old were taken into custody. Police said they found numerous items and discarded packaging inside the 2010 Dodge Caravan they were driving.

Police believe items were stolen from surrounding cities over the past two weeks and many items are unclaimed.

Walker was arraigned Monday, Dec. 11, on two counts of larceny under $200, but other charges may be pending once all victims are identified. His bond was set at $5,000.

Anyone who may have had a package stolen in the past few days is encouraged to contact their local police department, who may be able to assist in connecting victims to recovered property.
