A 75-year-old woman has died after she fell through some ice in Milford Township.
The incident occurred at 1:41 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 1) at Hubbell Pond.
The Milford Township Police Department (MPD) and Fire Department (MFD) were called to the area for a dog that appeared to be stuck on the ice.
MPD and MFD were able to rescue the dog, but in doing so, they observed several personal items near the edge of the ice.
The Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team (SSRT) was requested to deploy several public safety divers to search the pond.
The SSRT was assisted by “Strike Teams” from the Livingston County Dive Team, the Genessee County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, and the Van Buren Township Dive Team, which are a part of the Southeast Michigan Dive Group.
Public safety personnel said they observed a coat near the surface. SSRT divers were able to recover the victim, who had fallen through the ice approximately 250 feet from the edge.
Once she was brought to shore, the victim was taken to the Detroit Medical Center Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, where the 75-year-old Milford resident, around 7 p.m., was pronounced deceased.
