Michigan sex offender caught with runaway girl from West Virginia

PETOSKEY, Mich. – A sex offender in Michigan was caught with a missing girl who had run away from her home in West Virginia.

Michigan State Police received a call Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from an officer in West Virginia who said a missing runaway had been linked to a man in the Petoskey area.

Troopers received a search warrant for the man’s home and found the missing girl.

Police said the 26-year-old Petoskey man is a registered sex offender with a previous conviction for criminal sexual conduct with a child under 13 years old.

The man was home when police arrived and told them he was aware that the girl had been reported missing. Officers said the man was allowing the girl to stay with him.

He was arrested and brought to the Emmet County Jail.

Officials are arranging to return the girl back to her home in West Virginia. They continue to investigate how she ended up with the man.
