HARPER WOODS, Mich. – A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with the shooting of a 25-year-old woman that caused several Harper Woods schools to go into lockdown.

The shooting happened on Dec. 21, 2023, at about 8 a.m. near the intersection of Woodcrest Street and Lansdowne Avenue. According to authorities, Brenitaze Moore was having an argument with his then-girlfriend that escalated into a fight. When the victim entered her car to leave, Moore reportedly fired several times through the window, hitting the woman in her abdomen.

After the shooting, police issued a shelter-in-place for the area and several schools went into lockdown. The lockdowns were lifted about four hours after the shooting.

Moore was recently found in Delaware and was extradited to Michigan on Friday, April 12. The next day, Moore was charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felon in possession of a firearm, felonious assault, domestic violence and four counts of felony firearm.

He was not issued bail and was remanded back to jail.
