DETROIT – A teenager from Macomb County has been charged in a drive-by shooting that left an 18-year-old dead.

The shooting happened at 12:13 p.m. May 17, 2024, in the area of Whittier and Roxbury streets on Detroit’s east side.

Officials said Tasean Lamarean Johnson, 19, of Eastpointe, was in a moving car when he fired a handgun multiple times, striking an 18-year-old Detroit man who was walking east on Whittier Street.

Medical officials said the 18-year-old had multiple gunshot wounds. They rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he died from his injuries.

Johnson was arrested by Detroit police on Monday, May 20.

Johnson was arraigned Thursday on charges of second-degree murder, discharge from a moving vehicle causing death, carrying a concealed weapon, lying to a peace officer, and two felony firearm violations.

He was given a $750,000 bond, cash/surety. If he’s released, he must wear a GPS tether and remain on house arrest.

A bond redetermination hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 28. A probable cause conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. May 30, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. June 4.
