REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 15-year-old boy has been charged in the shooting of another 15-year-old boy at a Redford high school.

It happened Wednesday, May 7, at Thurston High School, off Schoolcraft Road. The school was closed Thursday for a “Day of Healing.”
According to authorities, a student brought an unsecured handgun to school in his backpack and while sitting on the school bus, he was handling the gun when it discharged, hitting another boy in the left hand.
The student has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, careless discharge of a firearm and possession of a weapon in a weapons-free school zone. His name is being withheld due to his age.
A pre-trial has been scheduled for Monday, May 12.
Police are seeking charges against the owner of the gun for violating Michigan’s safe storage laws .
