Troy Fire Department: Stop throwing away batteries City officials urge responsible battery disposal after truck fire
TROY, Mich. – Firefighters in Troy are urging residents not to throw away lithium batteries after a garbage truck caught fire .
The fire happened Thursday, May 8, and is believed to have been caused by batteries that someone improperly disposed of in the trash.
Lithium batteries can be found in various devices -- including phones, laptops and power tools. They should not be thrown in the trash or recycling due to the fire hazard.
